True scientist (75 years to Anatoly Ivanovich Martynov)

A.M. Kulemzin

doctor of cultural science, professor, head of the department of museum business Kemerovo state university of culture and arts

When speak about the scientist's merits, as a rule, begin with arithmetics of his scientific publications, and finish with transfer of awards. It seems to me that in the true scientist has to be equally the Pioneer and Grazhdanin. Anatoly Ivanovich Martynov - is a successful and rare combination of these qualities which do the true credit to the scientist.

Anatoly Ivanovich appeared in Kemerovo in 1955, after the termination of department of history of the Moscow Pedagogical Institute. At this time after the long forced inaction in the years of war hardly rose to the feet our regional

museum of local lore. The young specialist got up at the head of the museum and for the short period turned it into the large, dynamically developing cultural institution. Vigorous and inquisitive, he was able to combine work of the head of establishment with pedagogical work at Pedagogical Institute and large-scale archaeological researches. As a result in 1963 it defended the master's thesis, and in 1975 - the doctoral dissertation on archeology of Southern Siberia.

After creation of school of sciences from among the pupils now the solid scientist could do also more large-scale affairs. In 1975 he opens the department of archeology, only beyond the Urals. For a short time it gained broad popularity the large researches in the USSR and abroad. Under the leadership of A.I. Martynov within 23 years this educational and scientific division made great progress. Researches in the Kemerovo region, Khakassia, in Altai, in Tuva, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, in Ukraine, in Bulgaria were conducted.

Education of youth through love for scientific search - one of its pedagogical methods. The keen researcher was able to entrain also others. In 1970 he creates scout labor archaeological camp "Rodina". Within fifteen years through it there passed hundreds of school students. For them it was the best lesson of labor and patriotic education.

To find the young people who are carried away by science and to open for them the road to science not each scientist manages. We meet with the loner scientist, pottering about in the problem in the pleasure more often. For 40 years of work in higher education institution Anatoly Ivanovich prepared 25 candidates of historical sciences, 4 candidates of cultural science, 6 doctors of science.

Ability to connect science and requirements of society - one more quality of A.I. Martynov. It in an ideal look was implemented in creation on its initiative and under its management in 1988 original and one of the few archaeological museums in the country - Tomsk Pisanitsa. Now his child it is widely known not only in our country, but also abroad. In 1999 he was recognized by the best museum in Russia. In 2002 for one of expositions of the museum "Russian Siberian Village" A.I. Martynov was awarded the Russian President's grant.

Professor A.I. Martynov is an outstanding scientist, the famous expert in the field of archeology, primitive art, museology. More than 300 scientific works issued from its pen. He is the author of 13 monographs published in the Russian, English, Italian, Hungarian, German and Japanese languages. His books are published in domestic central publishing houses and abroad. Among them: "Treasures of Tomsk Pisanitsa" (M.: Art, 1972); "Forest-steppe tagarsky culture" (Novosibirsk: Science, 1979); "Siberian petroglyphs" (Budapest: Kovrina, 1983); "Ancient art of Northern Asia" (USA, Illinois press, 1992); "The sun in the history of mankind" (the UNESCO edition, 1993 (in 12 languages)); "The History of Siberia" (in co-authorship) (Tokyo, 1981. - T. 1), etc. Its textbook for the higher educational institutions "Archeology" published in 1972 in 35 years was republished six times. On it students of Russia and the CIS countries study.

A.I. Martynov created the new scientific direction and existence of a steppe Eurasian civilization in the I millennium BC is proved. On this problem on its initiative a number of scientific conferences was held to Kemerovo in 1979, 1984, 1987, 1989. Known not only in our country, but also abroad the scientist was turned down and participated in a number of the international congresses and conferences: The IV International congress of anthropological sciences (Washington); VI and VII international Finno-Ugric congresses in 1985 and 1990 (Syktyvkar, Debrecen); The III World archaeological congress in 1992 (Delhi); World congress of the northern people (Fairbanks, USA), etc. In 1980 professor A.I. Martynov was invited for reading a course of lectures on archeology of Siberia in the USA. During one semester it gave classes with students of the universities in Illinois, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, Harvard and Colombia.

Professor A.I. Martynov not only the scientist, the teacher and the organizer of science, he also the citizen having the active position. Its public work is many-sided. In the 60-80th he was the vice-chairman of Regional office of the All-Russian society of protection of historical and cultural monuments, the participant constituent and all subsequent congresses of society. In 1990-1999 he headed regional office of the Russian fund of culture. During rough boiling of political passions in the 90th of the 20th century around a question of a way of Russia in the 21st century Anatoly Ivanovich without hesitation protected the ideas of reforms and changes. He was a participant Constituent, the First and Second congresses of the political movement Otechestvo and a unifying congress Fatherland-All Russia, consisted in the Council of Elders at the governor.

Having progressive outlook, big organizing ability, scientific erudition and ability to lead people, Anatoly Ivanovich made the considerable contribution to creation of new, modern Russia. His merits were noted: in 1991 he was elected the full member of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences, in 1995 the honorary title of the honored worker of science of the Russian Federation is given", in 2007 it is awarded with an Order of the Badge of Honour.

When you turn over archival pieces of paper, finding the most essential facts for an outline of an objective picture, in dry lines of transfers of affairs and events the living person is not visible. Everything develops somehow is smooth, sifted, frictionless. I know Anatoly Ivanovich already half a century. At first the school student who visited his archaeological camp near my village then the student listening to his lectures, the assistant and the associate professor of his department, now the head of the department with which Anatoly Ivanovich actively cooperates. I saw with what tension of forces, overcoming departmental obstacles, envy, misunderstanding, conservatism, narrowness of thinking and other defects of others on a warehouse of people, it that we had now what we have had to make the way: department of archeology and the museum of archeology, ethnography and ecology at the Kemerovo state university, laboratory of a metallography, memorial estate "Tomsk Pisanitsa", the Kemerovo archaeological school, the new scientific direction in archeology kept and the restored historical and cultural heritage in Kuzbass and much, many other. Estimating this enormous contribution, hardly you realize that one person could do all this. But, I assure you, would be made even more if envious persons, careerists, rascals whom he did not see and to whom trusted because of the kindness were not fed around it.

In a year of anniversary of Anatoly Ivanovich we will wish it kind good health, good luck in his family, we will give support at a difficult moment and we will reward according to the deserts.
