PROFESSOR S.S. ILYENOK (to the 95 anniversary since birth)

I.V. Kucherenko, O.K. Skripko

Tomsk Polytechnic University of E-mail: kucherenko@.ru.ru

The course of life and scientific activity of the head of the department of petrography of the Tomsk polytechnical institute of professor S.S. Ilyenk is described (1912-1983).

This case Lidiya Nikolaevna Kra-evskaya, the participant of those events, the senior paleontologist of the West Siberian geological management (ZSGU, Novokuznetsk) - "the lady with ministerial mind" told according to one of heads S.A. Skrobov's zsga.

Professor S.S. Ilyenok (1912-1983)

At the beginning of the 30th of the last century in the geological party working under the leadership of Boris Fedorovich Speransky whom colleagues called

"Salair's king" for a big contribution to studying geology of this area, there arrived to practice a student of the Siberian prospecting institute. B.F. Speransky as the chief of party, sent him to the next village behind products, gave to a supply, money. Soon the student returned without products and in tears: he saw in the village of the people dying of hunger. It was time of the begun collectivization.

This student is Sergey Sergeyevich Ilyenok, subsequently the geologist, the scientist, the soldier-volunteer of the Siberian (Stalin) voluntary division, the head of the department of petrography of the Tomsk polytechnical institute, professor, the deputy director of TPI for scientific work, Berezovsky's pioneer of the iron ore field in Krasnoyarsk Krai.

On September 25, 2007 to S.S. Ilyenk 95 years would be executed.

It took out sound moral principles from patriarchal country life of the grandfather - the immigrant from Ukraine who went at the beginning of the 20th century on a Stolypin appeal behind the better lot to Siberia. Sergey Sergeyevich told that the grandfather Demyan with the Ukrainian surname of Ilyenko who with all family when checking could be removed from the train for "hokhlyatsky" origin quickly thought to change it on Ilyenok. So it reached the Irkutsk province where the son Sergey was born in the settlement Ust-Uda on Angara at one of sons Demyan

>- Sergey Sergeyevich Ilyenok. His father is Sergey Demyanovich Ilyenok much and difficult worked to support numerous (7 children) family,

>- was a storekeeper, the supply manager, the conductor of the train. Positions, residences changed: Bo-

daybo, St. Winter, Shcheglovsk (nowadays Kemerovo). In the last place in 1929 after the termination of high school his son Sergey got a job a promyvalshchik in Telbessky group of boring investigation of Zap-sibzoloto trust.

Years of vocational training of Sergey Sergeyevich coincided with the period of reorganization of higher education institutions of the beginning of the thirtieth years. He began to study at the Siberian coal institute in 1930-1931, continued study at the Siberian prospecting institute in 1932-1934, and graduated from prospecting faculty of the Tomsk industrial institute in 1935. This reorganization for normal functioning of educational process brought nothing positive, but everyone who could and wanted to study got good education as research and educational personnel remained, professors M.A. Usov, M.K. Korovin, N.N. Gornostayev and others worked. To number of those who could and wanted to study, became the educated expert, also S.S. Ilyenok belonged.

Working as the miner geologist at the Znamenitin-sky mine in Kuznetsk Alatau, then the regional geologist of Hakaszoloto trust, S.S. Ilyenok promptly gained skills of the practical and leading work. Production activity in geology does not exclude scientific work, on the contrary, can supplement one another naturally that Sergey Sergeyevich in the next years also showed. Nevertheless, he changed accents, having accepted in 1939 the offer to work as the assistant at department of mineralogy at the Tomsk industrial institute with which connected the subsequent life.

From the beginning of the Great Patriotic War to its intention to leave on the front, till 1943 it was not fated it will be carried out, - it on a reservation was left to work at the labor front, very important for replenishment of gold and currency reserves of the country, - the chief of Izekiyulsky prospecting party of Zapsibtsvetmetrazvedka trust. Obviously, Sergey Sergeyevich by the beginning of war gained authority of the highly professional expert, - ordinary people moreover torn on the front, "did not reserve".

Only in 1943, having finished production tasks, he acquired the right to submit the application to a military registration and enlistment office and was sent to privates as a part of the Siberian (Stalin) voluntary division completed in Krasnoyarsk to Field army - on the Western front. Already the country stepped through danger of death, it and then became clear to all; the person, having a reservation, could "sit on the furnace", quietly working in a taiga and mountains, and he sought is more effective as he considered, to protect the Homeland at the advanced boundaries. They say, the destiny spares such people, it spared it half, having left to live. Sergey Sergeyevich within a year was involved in almost continuous fights on several fronts, in July, 1943 was contused, and in

April, 1944 - he is seriously injured. The destiny disposed to release it from the front only when release of the country from barbarians became obvious. He made everything to bring closer this time, and in an award received the highest sign of soldier's valor - the fighting medal "For Courage".

After long-term treatment in hospitals it returned on the small homeland - to Tomsk, and at once came to a postgraduate study in which finished training in a short time.

Under the leadership of professor Yu.A. Kuznetsov it prepared the thesis and, having protected it, in 1947 became the candidate of geological and mineralogical sciences, and in 1948 was approved in an academic status of the associate professor on department of petrography.

The fiftieth years are years of formation of S.S. Ilyenk as teacher and scientist.

Sergey Sergeyevich was not a speaker and to stands in the standard understanding of these terms, - it possessed a low voice, quiet, without explosive episodes, the speech. In exchange it had profound versatile knowledge and ability to bring them consistently and logically to listeners. Both appearance, and a communication manner it won over people who came from the different cities and areas that in real-life communication to get at it advice, council. The rumor attributed it deep analytical mind and it was fair. One of authors, I.V. Kucherenko, communicating in the sixties with Sergey Sergeyevich during performance of joint scientific work as with the research supervisor of economic contractual subjects with West Siberian and Krasnoyarsk geological

mi managements, repeatedly made sure of its ability to see such aspects which opened a direct way to its decision in a problem.

In the 60-70th, having replaced in 1959 professor Yu.A. Kuznetsov on a post of the head of the department of petrography, S.S. Ilyenok as the leading lecturer provides teaching petrography and petrology for the students of geological specialty and students studying in a technology of silicates. But it will be then for now under the leadership of professor Yu.A. Kuznetsov he accumulated experience.

That scientific research meant in Sergey Sergeyevich's life it is possible to judge by the curious fact of its biography, - to the exceptional case which almost did not have and which does not have precedents. The director of institute professor A.A. Vorobyov, it is personally good knowing it, appointed in 1952 Sergey Sergeyevich the assistant - the deputy for scientific work. In incomplete two years S.S. Il-enok asked to exempt it from this highly prestigious and highly profitable administrative position to focus on scientific researches which probably brought it feeling of deep satisfaction, but definitely did not promise any financial or material dividends and were accompanied by need much and tensely to work. The spiritual beginning prevailed at it over material, and it as we know, one of properties of the true scientist.

In Sergey Sergeyevich's activity imperious ambitions were not noticeable, but he had "softly expressed" strong character and self-respect which qualities were not slow to be shown during the difficult period of his life. In 1966 in connection with the termination of term of its powers, re-elections of the head of the department of petrography were appointed. One of teachers of department applying for this position accused S.S. Ilyenk of disorder of department. Probably, this highly experienced teacher was worthy a required position, but he was not right in the attacks to Sergey Sergeyevich that stated also the Academic council in the decision.

Young teachers and employees worked at department, there were many graduate students, scientific life boiled, students were involved in scientific research. Not accidentally in several years under the leadership of the employee of department A.M. Sazonov and the head of the department S.S. Ilyenk the student's work (V.V. Hitrov), the first in the history of faculty, awarded the Gold medal of Academy of Sciences of the USSR was prepared. And in the next years at department the student's works receiving awards at All-Union competitions were performed. The department did not lose in weight since the time of the management of it of professor Yu.A. Kuznetsov at all. In that the sixtieth - the seventieth years defended dissertations, there were associate professors and nowadays working teachers N.F. Stolbova, G.M. Ivanova, A.M. Sazonov (nowadays the head of the department Sibir-

the sky federal university, professor, the doctor of science), V.K. Bernatonis and already died V.A. Sarayev, V.I. Yarygin, A.A. Mityakin and others. Quietly and with deep arguments Sergey Sergeyevich disproved all charges, probably, not so much in the address how many to department.

In June, 1968 S.S. Ilyenok, remaining the head of the department of petrography, it was elected to professor's position. In the recommendations to election the academician of Academy of Sciences of the USSR Yu.A. Kuznetsov (IGiG Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Science, Novosibirsk), the Winner of the Lenin award professor-doctor V.P. Kazarinov (SNIIG-GiMS, Novosibirsk), the corresponding member of Academy of Sciences of the USSR F.N. Shakhov (IGiG Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Science, Novosibirsk), the doctor of science professor of TGU V.A. Hakhlov, the rector of TPI professor-doctor A.A. Vorobyov noted big merits of Sergey Sergeyevich in the organization of educational process, scientific research at department, its big achievements in development of problems of petrology and ore formation.

The department chair of petrography S.S. Ilyenok in the mine of the Berikulsky mine, summer of 1966

Of course, the scientific profile and scientific authority of professor Yu.A. Kuznetsov influenced scientific priorities of Sergey Sergeyevich. He was a petrologist and the majority of its published works, including the monograph, is devoted to the solution of petrologic problems. Among them - petrology of a gabbro-siyenitovogo of a complex of Gornaya Shoriya, a "ancient" gabbro-dioritovogo of a complex of Kuznetsk Alatau, the Patynsko-Kultayginsky complex of ultramain-alkaline breeds of this region, origin of intrusions of diorites, nepheline breeds, mechanisms of magmatic replacement and them

a role in a magmoobrazovaniye and others. In each of these directions of researches it told the word, and this word was heard - it became the famous authoritative scientist in the field of magmatic geology, it was elected as a member of the Siberian Petrographic committee. But he was keen on the decision and adjacent problems of communications with magmatism of ore formation. Its results take the worthy place in a moneybox of knowledge reached for that time in this area.

The importance of these results for science such is that in the representations of outstanding scientists mentioned above Sergey Sergeyevich was recommended to generalize materials in the doctoral dissertation. Remained the unknown why he did not make it. We can only assume, knowing mentality of this very extraordinary person that he did not attach significance to registration of the achievements in the form of the thesis. In any case, from it it was possible to hear the statements approximately of such contents: important what you made useful in science, but not how you issued it. But he considered protection of the master's thesis obligatory as it provided the minimum material conditions for performance of further researches.

In the communication with graduate students Sergey Sergeyevich as scientific, anxious with search of the truth, was the head democratic - it gave them free rain of creativity that was appreciated of course by his pupils, but what not often could be met in other research teams which heads were anxious with another - that results of pupils did not cross out results of their own researches. But at all softness of its character it was firm in what concerned the publication of "crude" materials, not "ripened" results, a pseudo-scientific fiction in which as he used to say, it was possible to hide "an author's nonsense" easily. The arisen problem got

relevance since the number and volume of publications became one of important criteria for evaluation of scientific solvency of workers of science.

Speaking on this subject, he quite often lamented because spent a lot of time for studying the new monograph or article, having made sure of the final that read does not contain new knowledge or the new ideas. Possibly, he followed an example of A. Einstein, preferring, as well as this great scientist, articles to other forms of public expression of the thoughts and the results. Probably, the small monograph which came shortly before its election to a position of professor (1967) was written to them to fulfill the formal requirement of officials from science of that time according to which professor has to have at least one monograph.

For work of modern and future researchers it would be useful to publish the collection of the chosen works of professor, having put into it all his most considerable operation dispersed by the most part in editions difficult available nowadays.

Finishing a short essay of life and activity of the Teacher, Tutor, Scientific Tomsk polytechnical institute of professor S.S. Il-enka, we will afford a statement: though professor was not burdened with heavy degrees and ranks, he takes the worthy place among large Tomsk figures of the higher education and science. From height of time passed from the date of his death becomes obvious that Sergey Sergeyevich will not be forgotten, he will remain in memory of the subsequent generations as the person, the citizen and the patriot of the country who made everything that he could for prosperity of the Homeland and the Aima Mater - Tomsk polytechnical.
