Leonid Apollonovich Sytin was born in Tula where he got an initial education in a gymnasium upon termination of which the institute came to Mountains Gorecki. After institute Leonid Apollonovich was shipped outward - to Bavaria, Germany, Holland and France where then repeatedly went for the purpose of studying peat business. Upon return to Russia, in 1856, he was invited to work as the minister of State Imushchestv as a torfmeyster. Within 54 years Leonid Apollonovich continuously worked on a question of rational use of peat in Russia.

Under the leadership of Leonid Apollonovich in 1876 the peat plant of skilled developments of peat, and in 1883 was constructed in the Oryol province,

owing to demand for state peat bogs, the Torfmeystersky Part which zavedyvaniye was entrusted to Sytin was founded. Having at the disposal of several assistants, Leonid Apollonovich started a research and definition of state peat bogs, acquaintance of the population with peat getting in the manual ways, by means of the device of indicative developments, dissemination of data on peat and training of specialists on peat business.

Already in the evening of life Leonid Apollonovich was lucky enough to make sure of what unusual development is gained created and so by the business loved by him who will be in the future fated to occupy one of important provisions in economic life of the country.
