The history of formation and development of hydrogeochemical researches at the Tomsk Polytechnic University and the main milestones of a course of life of the founder of the Siberian hydrogeochemical school Pavel Afanasyevich Udodov is considered.

The great Russian scientist V.I. Vernadsky, performing with lectures in Sorbonne (1923), called geochemistry new science of the XX century. Origin of geochemistry of underground waters is dated 1929 when V.I. Vernadsky for the first time formulated the maintenance of this industry of knowledge, having noted that among chemical compounds of Earth water holds absolutely special exclusive position, and the natural waters considered as minerals are the complex dynamic systems of balance which are in the closest communication with the environment surrounding them. Later, in 1933, V.I. Vernadsky specified that the geochemistry of waters is one of the vital geological problems as she studies water, and water defines osnovny lines of the biosphere surrounding us Wednesday with which all live indissolubly and is naturally connected [1]. Such is there was a scientific atmosphere those years when P.A. Udodov in 1925 arrived to study as physical and mathematical faculty of the Tomsk state university.

Pavel Afanasyevich Udodov (Tomsk, 1970)

Pavel Afanasyevich Udodov was born on October 25 (on new style) 1903 in Tomsk. In 1918 P.A. Udodov graduated from initial school in Tomsk, and in 1923 - Polzunovsky mechanical technical school in Barnaul. During study it worked as the mechanic at the plant, later - as well as the father - at construction works, and since 1923 - the assistant to the locomotive driver.

Tomsk, thanks to stay two, the large higher education institutions, only beyond the Urals, - the university and Institute of Technology, already then was known not only as the administrative center of the huge province, but also as & #34; Siberian Afiny". Among many directions there is the higher education in the field of mining and geology was one of the oldest. The famous geologist and the writer, future academician of Academy of Sciences of the USSR V.A. Obruchev was its founder in Tomsk. The inherent aspiration of P.A. Udodov to all new defined its transfer in September, 1927 to mountain faculty in the Siberian Institute of Technology of F.E. Dzerzhinsky (1926-1934) (till 1926 - the Tomsk Institute of Technology), and in 1930 - on newly opened hydrogeological specialty at the Siberian prospecting institute which was allocated on August 1, 1930 from the structure of the Siberian Institute of Technology of F.E. Dzerzhinsky. Having successfully finished it same year P.A. Udodov together with A.S. Homentovsky (future corresponding member of Academy of Sciences of the USSR) became the first graduates of department of hydrogeology and engineering geology.

Still in the period of student's the practician, since 1929 he conducts independent researches in a northern part of the Kansk district for the purpose of expansion of a source of raw materials of the Troitsk solevarenny plant. During the period from 1931 to 1936 in the West Siberian geological management P.A. Udodov works in the field of mine hydrogeology. Here it developed and introduced in Kuzbass a technique of hydrogeological researches on studying mine waters [2] and hydrogeological conditions of iron ore fields of Gornaya Shoriya [3]. In 1937 P.A. Udodov participates in work of the XVIII International geological congress in Moscow.

Special progress is reached by P.A. Udodov by search of fields of underground waters. So, in the south of Kuzbass in the depressions put Jurassic

deposits, by it revealed large reserves of fresh waters. At all stages of these works as his teacher and mentor the founder and the first head of the department of hydrogeology and engineering geology M.I. Kuchin was. This interest in science resulted him in need to pass in 1934 by M.I. Kuchin's invitation to work for department of hydrogeology and engineering geology of the Tomsk industrial institute (till 1934 - the Siberian Institute of Technology) where he worked till last days of the life [4].

Working at institute, Pavel Afanasyevich continued cooperation with hydrogeologists of Kuzbass, studying underground waters of coal and iron ore fields. He was interested not only their water content, but also features of the chemical composition of water. Insufficiency of information on the chemical composition of waters was felt by it at generalization of materials in the course of preparation of materials for the report at the First conference on productive forces of Siberia later when he under the leadership of M.I. Kuchin participated in drawing up the hydrogeological map of Kuzbass in connection with preparation of the inventory of underground waters of Western Siberia.

In the second half of the 30th years, along with teaching activity, P.A. Udodov as the chief of hydrogeological party participated in researches in connection with a solution of the problem of increase in productivity in Western Siberia. Here it received the unique materials characterizing the hydrogeological features of Baraba Steppe which allowed to open

large fields of drinking waters in ancient valleys. These materials formed a basis for performance of the master's thesis by P.A. Udodov which end was interfered by war [4].

The thirtieth years were time of formation of science about geochemical features of natural waters. In 1933 the monograph by V.I. Vernadsky & #34 was published; History natural вод" unique on depth of penetration into the mysteries of the hydrosphere [5]. Emergence in practice of exploration works of geochemical methods of search (1931-1932) when N.I. Safronov offered falls on this period and for the first time carried out in practice search of ore fields on the basis of ideas of their auras of dispersion.

The continuing systematic acquaintance of P.A. Udodov to scientific literature, to V.I. Vernadsky's works, constantly excited at it interest in questions of formation of the chemical composition of underground waters, especially on the areas of ore fields. In 1936 P.A. Udodov paid attention to the published N.I. Safronov's article [6]. From now on the idea about use of composition of underground waters as criterion for search of ore minerals strongly seized his mind. Confidence in it was promoted also by A.V. Scherbakov and A.M. Ovchinnikov's article (1942) about a possibility of use of composition of natural waters for search and clarification of genesis of ore fields. The fast embodiment of this idea was prevented by the Great Patriotic War. The ruin which came after that also did not promote the embodiment in life of this idea [7].

In the period of Patriotic war Pavel Afanasyevich participated in engineering-geological researches under construction of local water intakes for the plants of Tomsk, carried out search and investigation of fields of underground waters in connection with water supply of mines and settlements in Kuzbass, the Omsk and Tomsk regions, Altai Krai and other regions. During this period, being engaged in teaching activity, it was the deputy chief of a scientific and technical part of institute. After the end of war in 1945 P.A. Udodov successfully defended the master's thesis & #34; Hydrogeological conditions of a southwest part of Baraby" and since 1946 it works at department as the associate professor. Its work during this period is noted by a medal & #34; For valorous work in the Great Patriotic War войне" (1946) and award & #34; Sign почета" (1953).

The new push for the embodiment of the idea of use of composition of waters for search and genesis of ore fields in life was given by Article E. A. Sergeyev [8] in which the data showing influence of ore fields on concentration of metals in the waters washing this field were provided. It strengthened P.A. Udodov's idea about need of development of search hydrogeochemistry even more. But new rather simple and highly sensitive method for determination of microamounts of metals in underground waters was for this purpose necessary. At that time such technique was not yet, and Pavel Afanasyevich involved in this work of Ivan Petrovich Onufriyenk - the talented chemist, the teacher of department of analytical chemistry of the Tomsk polytechnical institute (so since 1944 TII began to be called). Very successful scientific work of I.P. Onufriyenk at department of analytical chemistry was interrupted with the Great Patriotic War, he was called on the front and till 1946 was in army where directed big chemical laboratory. Having returned after war to department, within 17 years persistently fighting against a severe form of tuberculosis, he actively was engaged in scientific and pedagogical activity.

The high erudition of I.P. Onufriyenk and wide experience of professional work allowed to develop after a number of experiments an original method of fast concoction of microcomponents from rather small volumes of water (certificate of registration No. 7712 of September 16, 1957) [9, 44]. This idea was fruitful, and it was widely used when developing methods of concoction of elements by their coprecipitation with other reagents. In the territory of Siberia within many decades & #34; TPI" method; remained the most available, reliable and allowed to cover the greatest number of microcomponents. In spite of the fact that now appeared many essentially new methods of the analysis of waters, value & #34; TPI" method; as pioneer, does not decrease [10] over time.

The received concentrate at that time could be analyzed atomic and issue spekt-

rolled analysis. Pavel Afanasyevich's wife, the teacher of department of geophysical methods of search and investigation of mineral deposits, Olga Vladimirovna Udodov, owned method of the spectral analysis of samples of rocks, and she managed to use together with L.L. Skripova and Z.N. Tereshkova this method for the analysis of the concentrate received on & #34; to TPI" method;. Its realization at large-scale hydrogeochemical researches was executed by A.D. Glazunova and R.S. Solodovnikova [9].

Emergence of a new method of coprecipitation of microcomponents allowed Pavel Afanasyevich to organize in the early fifties the first skilled production hydrogeochemical search of ore fields in Kuznetsk Alatau (in an upper course of the Tom River). So, development of a technique of hydrogeochemical search of ore fields began with the choice of reliable and highly sensitive methods of the analysis of natural waters on heavy metals [4, 11]. The accepted strategy was based on bases of formation of waters and their structure, on studying influence of external factors and properties of chemical elements on their migration in waters. At the very beginning of formation of a method, features of transition of elements from rocks and ores in waters, influence of structure of the containing deposits on behavior of elements in waters were experimentally studied, influence of acid-base properties of waters on migration of elements in them was investigated. Were calculated by I.P. Onufriyenk rn sedimentation of hydroxides of metals. He together with Pavel Afanasyevich was the head of researches on studying chemical activity and processes of adsorption and a desorption of rocks (certificate of registration No. 24910 of July 24, 1961) [9, 44].

For clarification of opportunities of hydrogeochemical search of ore fields under the leadership of P.A. Udodov skilled and methodical hydrogeochemical researches in various geological and landscape conditions of Siberia were put [9]. Development of methodical bases of hydrogeochemical search in a different environment in the 1960th years under the leadership of P.A. Udodov was continued in SNIIGGIMS. In the conditions of permafrost they are carried out S.L. Schwartz - vy, in the conditions of the dismembered relief of a mountain zone of Mountain Altai and Western Sayan Mountains - Yu.S. Parilov (nowadays the doctor of science, the employee of Academy of Sciences of Kazakhstan), in regions of the ancient geological structures of Yenisey Ridge - A.A. Lukin. During the same period researches in a northern part of the Kolyvan-Tomsk area within structures of the Tomsk bank V.M. Ma-tusevichem and B.I. Shestakov continued. From practical positions of introduction of a method the considerable attention was given by P.A. Udodov to justification of hydrogeochemical criteria, application of methods of mathematical statistics when processing hydrogeochemical information, in particular, to allocation above background concentration with use

probabilistic cliche. Methodological aspects and results of hydrogeochemical researches are published by P.A. Udodov with the pupils in monographs [9, 12, 13]. Training of the methodical management on hydrogeochemical search of ore fields is conducted.

The first stage of researches on formation of a hydrogeochemical method can be considered finished by 1965. By this time by results of the executed hydrogeochemical search protection of master's theses of E.A. Ponomarev (1961), N.M. Rasskazov (1962), Yu.S. Pa-rilov (1963), V.M. Matusevich (1964) and Page L. Shvartsev (1964) took place. Methodical aspects of conducting hydrogeochemical search are covered on organized in Tomsk by Pavel Afanasyevich the first Interdepartmental meeting in 1960 and the Interuniversity conference in 1965 [14, 15].

The allocated areas, prospective on minerals, became practical result of the conducted researches, many of which were confirmed later with results of exploration works. Allocation of the perspective site where then the Talnakh copper-nickel field with E.E. Kuzmin's participation was explored (future of g - m of N) - the pupil P.A. Udodov became one of the most characteristic progress of their application.

On Salair P.A. Udodov's pupil E.A. Ponomarev (nowadays of g - m of N, professor of the Tyumen oil and gas university) found one nonindustrial field and a number of earlier unknown ore occurences. By modern mine-ragenichesky researches [16] it is shown that the anomalies of copper and pyritic and polymetallic type which are marked out with E.A. Ponomarev are in Poldnevo-Ikovsky polymetallic gold-bearing and Medvedsko-Kalinovsky honey-but-pyritic ore zones [17].


In the Kolyvan-Tomsk folded area in 1957 according to hydrogeochemical data allocated the search site with high content in waters of zirconium and titanium zirconium scatterings - type of mineral raw materials, new to the region, are revealed. In 1957-1967, prospects of east part of Tom-Yaysky Entre Rios on polymetallic, tin-molybdenum and mercury mineralizations were defined [9, 12, 13].

By works of staff of the TPU problem research hydrogeochemical laboratory in a northern part of the Kolyvan-Tomsk folded area in 1986-1989 it was shown that reorientation to a zolotoorudeneniye of earlier revealed polymetallic and antimony-mercury anomalies is observed. In 1996-2001 in the territory of the Tomsk ledge the allocation of the Tomsk gold district was proved [18]. Hydrogeochemical researches of 1998-2001 confirmed high prospect on gold mineralization of Haldeevskaya Square (ore knot), the card abnormal hydro-

which geochemical fields intensive development of chemical elements of different geochemical groups among which gold in a complex with silver and antimony has the defining role [19] is characterized.

Results of problem hydrogeochemical laboratory of the Tomsk Polytechnic University in development of search of mineral raw materials convincingly demonstrate that the hydrogeochemical method of search of minerals completely equaled the hopes laid on it and is a necessary and major component of geochemical search in the conditions of the closed and half-closed territories [17]. Results of hydrogeochemical search allow to define also formational types of gold fields as it is shown on the example of the Top Priamurye to. g - m of N B.I. Shestakov - P.A. Udodov's pupil [20].

Progress in production of hydrogeochemical researches promoted that the scientific management of problem geological laboratory was entrusted to Pavel Afanasyevich Udodov in 1963, and from now on becomes the main direction of this laboratory founded in 1957 hydrogeochemical. P.A. Udodov's nature tireless and obsessed with the new ideas defined the production of versatile researches and materials collected by employees of his collective, formed a basis for emergence of other scientific directions.

Wide range of scientific views of Pavel Afanasyevich allowed it to see ways of development of the hydrogeochemical direction. Following (according to V.I. Vernadsky) to the principle of dynamic balance of a system water-breed-gas-organic matter [21], Pavel Afanasyevich creates complex analytical base of problem laboratory for definition of a large number of chemical elements, the water dissolved gases, organic matter, isotopes of oxygen and carbon, bacteria of a geochemical cycle of sulfur, carbon, iron and nitrogen.

For those times remained a little studied a role of microorganisms in formation of composition of underground waters of ore and oil and gas fields. It was clear to it that whether it is necessary to answer a question there is microflora in physically connected waters of rocks which directly contact to particles of these breeds. For the solution of this task of its initiative in TPI two new laboratories - steam solutions and microbiological which employees for the first time managed to reveal active microflora in the connected waters (steam solutions) were created. The essence of this invention is protected by the copyright certificate of the USSR No. 380701 of February 14, 1973 & #34; Nutrient medium for allocation of bacteria of a type of ThyubacShus fer-шoxidans". P.A. Udodov supposes that results of researches will matter, as for determination of new criteria geochemical

search of deep-laying fields, and for development of new methods of underground leaching of MPI. Experience of studying the chemical and microbiological composition of steam solutions of various breeds which are in different geological conditions is stated in two monographs [22, 23], one of which left after his death and also in master's theses of E.S. Korobeynikova (1982) and N.A. Trifonova (1994). Now these works are continued by Pavel Afanasyevich's pupils [24-26].

In 1965 for development & #34; Hydrogeochemical method of search ore месторождений" P.A. Udodov is awarded the Gold medal of ENEA. For special merits before the Tomsk polytechnical institute to him the rank of professor is given (1966), he is awarded with the Order of Lenin (1967), marked out by the breastplate & #34; Excellent student of investigation недр" (1971) and the diploma for opening and detailed investigation of the Tomsk field of underground waters (1973).

For 1970-80 very hard and productive work of P.A. Udodov is necessary. Protection of the report for a degree of the doctor of geological and mineralogical sciences on set of the published works (F.N. Shakhov, A.I. Perel-man and E.V. Pinneker acted as opponents) is carried successfully out [27]. The monograph by results of hydrogeochemical researches in the Kolyvan-Tomsk folded area [13] which became the first experience of application of regional hydrogeochemical search of the hidden mineralization in a complex with geological and hydrogeological survey of the territory is published. The methodical guide to hydrogeochemical search of ore fields is published [28]. Results of formation and development of hydrogeochemical researches in TPU [29] are covered. In 1971 and 1978 III and IV conferences on hydrogeochemical search of mineral deposits are held [30, 31]. Researches on hydrogeochemical search of fields of mercury come to the end, and the new development stage of a technique of hydrogeochemical search of a zolotoorudeneniye begins [11].

Solving problems of formation of water streams of dispersion, Pavel Afanasyevich paid to researches of mobility of chemical elements and forms of their stay (the certificate of registration No. 25227 of September 25, 1961 and No. 36145 of April 6, 1963) [45], to studying a role of organic matter in migration of chemical elements, to features of distribution in underground waters of isotopes of oxygen and carbon much attention. Their solution was found by reflection in master's theses of R.S. Solodov-nikova (1967) and V.G Ivanova (1970). Results of studying isotopes of carbon in underground waters of the Tomsk region are presented in a number of publications and generalized in the monograph by N.K. Grigoriev (1989) [11], and researches of isotope composition of waters continue now [32, page 101].

Lighting development of scientific ideas of Pavel Afanasyevich Udodov, his pupil, of g - m of N professor S.L. Shvartsev notes that P.A. Udodov made the significant contribution to development of hydrogeochemistry and by right is quoted practically in all textbooks on geochemistry of underground waters [10]. He the first in the country began to give a course of search hydrogeochemistry in TPI. At the same time, the solution of problems of formation of composition of underground waters required more in-depth study of a system water-breed-gas-organic matter. In this regard in TPI since the beginning of the 70th years of the last century under the leadership of S.L. Shvartsev the subject on interaction of water with rocks began to be developed actively [34]. Pioneer researches on interaction of water with rocks were stated in 6 languid monographs & #34; Bases гидрогеологии" the conferred State award of the USSR 1986. Among authors of the 3rd volume of this monograph [34] the name of Pavel Afanasyevich Udodov appears. Development of theoretical bases by S.L. Shvartsev on problems of geological evolution of a system water breed led to creation of the new scientific direction on self-organization of a system water breed [35, 36].

Due to the intensive development of oil resources of the Tomsk region in the late sixties under the leadership of Pavel Afanasyevich researches in its oil-and-gas areas are conducted [11]. The developed hydrogeochemical criteria of search of oil and gas fields, recommendations about use of mineral waters which received detailed lighting in the master's thesis of A.D. Nazarov (1972) became their result.

This scientific direction of special progress reached in works of of g - m of N, professor V.M. Matusevi-cha. He developed a hydrogeochemical method of search in relation to oil and gas fields and created school of sciences of oil and gas hydrogeochemistry. Distribution of microcomponents and organic matter in oil waters of the West Siberian oil and gas bearing basin was studied in detail, water auras of dispersion in the recovery geochemical environment are for the first time characterized and new hydrogeochemical criteria are developed for the regional and detailed forecast of oil-and-gas content [37, 38]. The new data obtained by it were included into textbooks and became property of all Russian science [39]. This direction of researches and actively develops today including in the Russian Academy of Sciences [10].

The wide experience of P.A. Udodov in the field of hydrogeology allowed it to be guided successfully at acceptance of crucial decisions. In this regard justification of need of the transfer of Tomsk to underground water supply became natural success in Pavel Afanasyevich's life. It should be noted especially in it an initiative of his pupil N.M. Rasskazov (nowadays um. N, professor) on pe-

to a reschet of reserves of underground waters and justification of need of production of a detailed exploration of underground waters for water supply of Tomsk [32, page 30].

P.A. Udodov defined also ways of overcoming and a solution of the problem of deficiency of hydrodynamic information when carrying out the advancing hydrogeochemical search on the basis of the analysis of communication of streams of underground waters with modern and paleozemny forms of a relief. The first experience of use of morphometric constructions was got at small-scale search hydrogeochemical shooting of the Kolyvan-Tomsk folded area [13]. Further researches allowed his pupil to. g - m of N to A.A. Lukin to develop a technique of morfrostrukturno-hydrogeological division into districts of the territory and to create the new scientific direction in hydrogeology [40].

In the mid-sixties the 20th centuries P.A. Udodov in connection with the solution of issues of protection and rational use of soils, superficial and under -

terrestrial waters the foundation is laid for development of the geoecological direction [41] which gained further development both in TPU, and at institutes of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Science. Many researches were conducted and conducted by in common many institutes and higher education institutions [10]. It is important to emphasize that at the solution of environmental-geochemical tasks the microflora to which P.A. Udodov paid much attention acts as the sensitive indicator of state of environment and, first of all, natural waters [42]. In recent years researches on assessment of an environmental-geochemical condition of mineral, river waters, sapropelic swamps [43] are conducted, the beginning which was put by P.A. Udodov.

Development and improvement of versatile hydrogeochemical researches were promoted by constant exchange of achievements of various hydrogeochemical schools, and the Tomsk Polytechnic University becomes the center of this communication. Here, since 1960, hydrogeochemical conferences on are regularly held

to different problems of hydrogeochemistry and hydrogeochemical methods of search, works of conferences are published. Pavel Afanasyevich Organizovannye conferences took place also in 1965, 1971 and 1978. His memories (P.A. Udodov died on January 28, 1981 [44]) were devoted conferences 1986 and 1993 of and a scientific session of 1998 [4, 45].

- professor of TPU Pavel Afanasyevich Udodov, the All-Russian scientific conference & #34 is devoted to the 100 anniversary since the birth of the founder of the Siberian hydrogeochemical school; Problems of search and ecological geochemistry of Sibiri" which took place at the Tomsk Polytechnic University on October 25-30, 2003. Work of a conference took place in the scientific directions reflecting the general ideas of P.A. Udodov on geochemistry and geoecology of water. P.A. Udodov's anniversary coincided with the 140 anniversary of the great scientist, founder of modern hydrogeochemistry, the academician Vladimir Ivanovich Vernadsky that also received reflection in the reports and publications submitted at a conference [32, 46].

More than 100 people from 30 organizations, among them scientists took part in work of a conference,

who stood at the origins of the birth of a hydrogeochemical method of search of ore and oil and gas fields.

A worthy gift for an anniversary birthday of Pavel Afanasyevich Udodov was official recognition of the Siberian hydrogeochemical school (No. NSh1566.2003.05) created by it. This school of sciences is headed nowadays by his pupil the director of TF IGNG Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Science, the Winner of the State award, the Honored worker of science, the head of the department of hydrogeology, engineering geology and hydrogeoecology of TPU professor S.L. Shvartsev.

The staff of the Siberian hydrogeochemical school includes the employees working at department of hydrogeology, engineering geology and hydrogeoecology and in problem research laboratory of hydrogeochemistry of IGND TPU, in TF IGNG SORAN, Geological institute of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Science (Ulan-Ude), Institute of earth crust of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Science (Irkutsk), the Pacific institute FEB RAS, Institute of geochemistry of V.I. Vernadsky RAS (Moscow). Scientific achievements of this school of sciences are widely known in Russia and beyond its limits.
